The Linguistics Department offers programs leading to Bachelor of Arts and
Master of Arts degrees in linguistics. A background
in linguistics prepares individuals
for a wide variety of careers. Currently, the fastest-growing area is
technology, where linguists work on speech recognition, natural
language processing, information retrieval, and a variety of web-based
projects. Linguistics graduates may go on to jobs in education,
business, government, and publishing. Our programs also provide excellent
preparation for graduate work in the professional fields (business,
medicine, and law) as well as, of course, for a career in academia.
